Storm Door Installation

Installation instructions for Storm Doors.

Please read instructions carefully and completely before proceeding with installation. On pre-hung doors, all installation holes are pre-drilled to ensure easy and proper installation.

1. Unpackage door and hardware carton. Remove glass and screen inserts from the door by releasing finger latches and lifting up and inward.
2. If the door was ordered as a Western application, (casing with 1 1/8" or deeper rabbet), the door will be furnished with a set of Snap-On adapters to increase the depth of the Z-Bar frame. If applicable, snap the adapters on.
3. Try door in the frame opening. Generally, the vertical Z-Bars have to be trimmed at the bottom with a hacksaw. Measure the appropriate height on both sides and cut to fit. The hinge side should be tight into the casing. To accomplish this, it may be necessary to shim behind the Z-Bar in order to keep the door unit level and plumb. Caulking should be applied to the back of the Z-Bar.
4. On the hinge side, install # 8 x 1" wood screws into the casing through the pre-drilled holes in the face of the Z-Bar. Pull the latch side of the door out slightly, just enough to remove the shipping screw which fastens the bottom of the Z-Bar to the door slab. NOTE: Replace this screw in the end of the slab. Swing door back into the opening and install #8 x 1" wood screws through remaining pre-drilled holes in Z-Bar sides and then the header. Make certain that door unit remains plumb and level and that the margin between the door slab and the Z-Bar is consistent around the perimeter of the door.
5. Check the door for proper operation. With the door on the open position, install #6 x 1 ¼ " through the pre-drilled holes in the hinge and Z-Bar into the jamb casing.
6. The door is now ready to receive the lockset, door closer, and door protector chain.
7. LOCKSET: Install in accordance with instructions furnished with the lockset. If door was ordered pre-hung and with standard hardware, there will be pre-drilled installation holes. If door does not latch properly, it may be necessary to shim the striker for proper latch engagement.
8. CLOSER: Install in accordance with the instructions furnished with the closer. It will be necessary to pre-drill installation holes according to the instructions provided.
9. CHAIN: Install according to the instructions furnished with the hardware. It will be necessary to pre-drill installation holes according to the instructions provided.
10. DOOR CLOSER: Tension should be adjusted to provide best operation with the appropriate insert (glass or screen) installed in the door.
11. ADJUSTABLE BOTTOM EXPANDER: Adjust for appropriate position and fasten with self-tapping screws provided.
12. Thoroughly caulk full perimeter of Z-Bars to casings if desired.

NOTE: Screens are intended to provide reasonable insect control and are not intend to provide security.
